INSPIRED BY KENZO #4
When we saw the cover of the Bromance #7 record by artist Jonny Negron, our immediate reaction was if there was a link with our Fall/Winter 2013 campaign by Jean-Paul Goude. We decided to get an answer directly from the source...
KENZINE: Hello Jonny, could you introduce yourself?
JONNY NEGRON: I am Jonny Negron, I am 27, I currently reside in Brooklyn, New York. I illustrate and draw comics.
K: Could you tell us about your background? How did you start drawing?
J N: I've been drawing since I was very little. I have drawings that date back to when I was 2 years old and I've never stopped since then.
K: How would you define your work in a few words?
J N: I enjoy telling stories through images and symbols. I have always been inspired to create, from drawing to making music, just working with my hands to try to make something that is pretty.
K: Who influenced your work?
J N: Suehiro Maruo (Suehiro Maruo is a Japanese mangaka).
K: Where did you see the Kenzo "X" visual for the first time and what did you like about it?
J N: I'm not exactly sure where I first saw the Kenzo ad, it may have been in an issue of an English magazine. I was looking for some pose ideas for an illustration, and I noticed the ad. I liked the way the models in the ad were posed together.
K: How would you define the "Jonny Negron woman" and do you think that maybe she has something in common with the Kenzo woman?
J N: Thick. Very thick. Attention to style.
K: What are your projects for this year?
J N: I'm planning to work on a graphic novel and a comic series about intergalactic wizards.
