MOOD OF THE WEEK #1: OWL HASHIOKI

But maybe even cuter was all the different "hashioki", or chopstick rests that we found. In Japan they make these in the shape of every kind of flora and fauna imaginable, in addition to the more traditional geometric wooden and stone shapes. There was one particular fauna that caught my eye in particular, even more adorable than the rest.

These cute little pastel-colored owls! When you're not using them they sleep contently on their backs in their little pea pod home. But when you employ them they valiantly hold your chopsticks on their bellies, making sure you don't soil the table with your used chopsticks (and vice versa), never minding if they might get a little dirty themselves.
