Felipe Oliveira Baptista was born in the Portugese archipelago, the Azores, in 1975. He grew up in Lisbon and moved to London at the age of eighteen to study Fashion Design, where he graduated in 1997 from Kingston University. He starts deepening his experience with brands such as Max Mara in Italy, and Christophe Lemaire and Cerruti in Paris where he settles in 1999. In 2002 Felipe Oliveira Baptista creates his first collection under his name, and presents it at the Hyères Festival where he is awarded the Grand Prix, and a year after that the ANDAM Fashion Award. He then launches his own eponymous brand and, only two years later, in 2005, he wins the ANDAM Fashion Award again. 2005 is also the year of his first runway show during Haute Couture in Paris, where he will now show every season until 2009.

Parallel to his work, he is considered for several projects: a capsule collection for Uniqlo (2006), an exhibition in the Museum of Modern Art in Luxembourg (2007), a commissioned book and special project for Nike entitled “AW 77” (2008), and an exhibition / installation for the Hyères Festival (2008).

In 2009 he presents his first show during Paris Fashion Week, and in 2010 is appointed Creative Director at Lacoste. An acclaimed and commercial successful collaboration unites them for eight years.

The year 2013 celebrates the anniversary of the ten years of the brand Felipe Oliveira Baptista and on this occasion a retrospective is held in the Museum of Design and Fashion in Lisbon. A year later the brand is put on hold but the designer continues, via multidisciplinary projects, to explore various creative fields. Follows, for instance, the publication in 2017 of a photography book entitled Lisboa part of the collection “Portrait de villes”.

In 2019 Felipe Oliveira Baptista takes over creative direction of Kenzo and oversees artistic direction globally, a position which includes collections, communication and special projects.
