A story of patterns and colors

When he arrived in Paris, Kenzo Takada found Parisian fashion a little sad and dull. In response, he set out to create colourful and graphic pieces.

While primary and bright colours were his favourites, he was not afraid to mix different shades together and add patterns. Flowers, animals, landscapes, Japanese iconography, checks and stripes dominated each collection.

He therefore decided to put together a team dedicated to colour research and print design. The motifs were painted in gouache or watercolour, with an emphasis on finding the perfect intense, vibrant tones.

This fascination with patterns and colours is still a core part of the company's process today.
